Gripe Water or Mylicon?

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on these 2 options for a premature infant?

I’m hesitant about the gripe water, as it’s not FDA regulated and idk how she will respond to the herbal ingredients. I have used it in the past, when my 13 year old was still a baby, and it worked great for her.

However, since then I’ve learned more (the fact that it wasn’t FDA regulated for one), so I am very nervous to risk something with my premature baby.

Had I been more educated 13 years ago, I would have been more likely to not use it back then also, but alas, I did not have the information that I do now. I was young and not as informed.

I have read that they can work great together, however as I said our premature girl was born at 35 weeks gestation, and she is now 3 weeks old. I’m just so scared that something might cause a rare reaction due to her gestational age. Her body was not meant to even be out in the world yet, but here she is.

I’m worried that I should wait on certain things maybe, like giving her OTC meds, for example, in terms of what her "actual age" is versus her "adjusted age".
(It’s a premie thing I guess, and honestly - I don’t understand it at all lol). 😆

Am I being crazy?

I don’t think you are crazy, I recently had my baby try mylicon aka last night… not sure if it worked - maybe cuz he pooped like an hr later and seemed more happy the rest of the night. He however does not have prob pooping but had been sooo fussy tried everything to get him calmed. Anyhow mylicon at least seems ok as it’s only one ingredient and my baby did not have any bad side effect - but he’s 4 months old. I would still recommend that you listen to your instinct and maybe don’t give to your baby until you speak to their pediatrician.

Gripe water I bought on the box says to be at least 2 weeks that’s all I know because I was going to give it to her when she just got home

I always did mylicon. I still give it too my 2 year old , just because when WIC changed the milk at 2 it made her gassy . Mylicon works great. Ask your pediatrician if your uncertain though
