My 9 week old son has ingrown toenails on his big toes. Both his toes are infected (has little yellow stuff just above his nails). He’s on Flucloxacillin antibiotics and I’m soaking his feet 2-3 times a day with epson salts but don’t feel like the massage and soaking is doing anything for the nails. I wanted him on antibiotic cream but doctor said oral is best. Now I’m reading online don’t give any type of antibiotics to babies and go to paediatrician or a specialist. Any tips to solve this? Hate seeing my baby with this

Mix coconut oil and tea tree oil and apply that after you wash in the warm Epsom salt water. Also get some pure aloe vera gel and apply that too. I would also up to doing it 4-6 times a day x

My little boy had the exact same, he was prescribed oral antibiotics by paediatrics as we took him to a&e as he had a fever and lots of swelling on his toes, cleared up straight away x

My health visitor said that surgical spirit is good for ingrown toenails. My boys nails corrected themselves before I got round to using it x

I struggle and have struggled since I was born with ingrown big toe nails and it comes and goes but 1 thing I did to naturally fix it since a Dr did threaten surgery if we couldn't fix it by the next appt was tying a string or floss around the toe and nail to separate and pull, it sounds crazy but it worked. I also did "therapy" with a floss several times a day to prevent it from getting infected whenever it flared up. I've also learned how to let my nails grow and once it's outt've the skin area, that's where I keep my nails to prevent it from getting ingrown again. Antibiotics only help for infections, not the physical aspect of an ingrown nail. It's a lot of high maintenance stuff until it's corrected but it's either that or surgery and I personally don't like the word surgery unless it's the last option. You could also find those toe nail clippers where it's like scissors and cut the nail digging into the skin and let it grow and heal naturally. I've had to do that atleast 5x in my adult years.

My son had the same thing when he was about the same age, I took him to see the GP they weren’t much help. So I ended up taking him to see a chiropodist. He’s not had any problems with ingrowing toenails since then. Hope that helps x
