My little one is due his 2 year check and his nursery key worker said that she would prepare a report for us to take. She said the only main concern is his speech which I really do not understand as my son can speak over 100 words and name items from books etc. He can also put words together saying things like 'blue bus' 'where has doggy gone?' 'There it is'
Does this sound concerning to anyone else?

That sounds more than on track. have you had the questionnaire from the health visitor? Maybe go speak to nursery before the appt
Yeah I have had the questionnaire and I think he can do most of the speech ones.

Sounds like your little one is more than on track with speech if he can form 3/4 word sentences. Maybe he is not as talkative at nursery maybe? Doesn’t sound like something of concern x

My son speaks way more at home than he does at nursery - could be that?

Is he maybe quiet at nursery? My daughter (who was 2 on the 29th August) will have full on conversations with her dad and me but she barely says anything at nursery. Like the other day she fell over running round at nursery and when I picked her up she said to me “mummy I falled over and hurt my lip” and I was like “oh no is it okay now” and she replied with “it hurts” and nursery were like she doesn’t have conversations like that here 😂.

This seems like a great amount of speech. My LO only has around 10 words and we have started speech and language referral

I really wouldn’t worry. We have our check last week and my daughter still only has a few single words and our HV said it’s nothing to be too worried by at the minute, only if she doesn’t develop more words until around 2.5 should we be worried. If they’re understanding what we’re saying then that’s the main things atm, the words will follow.

Did you ask her to elaborate what the concern about his speech actually is?
Hard to say if it sounds concerning without knowing what the actual concern is.

Like everyone else mentioned - it’s probably due to being quiet at nursery. I believe it’s same with my daughter - it’s her personality rather than language skills.
