We've been trying for 4 years and this is our first baby. Both mine and my husbands parents are thrilled however, my mother-in-law is going far to over the top. I am only 6 weeks and we've only told our close circle, e.g, family and friends, but my mother-in-law is going around sharing it will EVERYONE she is meeting and all her friends. I've asked her politely if she can stop telling people until me and my husband are ready to announce it ourselves. When I asked her reply was "I have been waiting for this for so long, I have the right to tell people I am going to be a grandma"... am I wrong for wanting her not to tell people

And does she not think you’ve been waiting so long to become a mum? What is wrong with people your other half needs to step in here and tell her she overstepping… it’s your news to share not hers… she became a mum many years ago… she’s had her time x

No, I was the same way with my own mother, and most ppl don’t even worry about you, so I told her unless those ppl are going to be assisting in my personal recovery and or are on my baby shower list, they don’t have any business knowing. Idk what I would do since my mom respected what I had to say- but mother in law; hmm maybe make it super clear she’s making you very uncomfortable and feeling unsafe and distance yourself a bit maybe, lean on another woman for advice and help as you prepare. She better play her cards right or she won’t be playing her grandma role for a while 🫢😂 maybe I’m petty

She is being incredibly disrespectful.
Yes, everyone is excited, yes she's allowed to he excited. But she has no right to tell YOUR news to other people.
My mother in law was similar, but when we told her to keep a lid on it, she did. Out of all of her children, my husband is the only one who's let her be a grandparent, his brothers never let their children spend time with her. She knew what was at stake and respected it.
I'm sorry your MiL is being a pain in the behind...

You’re not in the wrong. I would take from this and say to her if she’s not able to keep private things private you won’t be telling her anything in future that you’re not happy to share with everyone as she doesn’t respect your confidence.

This is your body and your baby and she needs to respect your decision. Maybe you could have a sit down with her and your husband and try to talk out why it is so important to you to do things on your time while also reminding her that inevitably you will have to tell people and that she gets to keep the grandchild for the rest of her life. It’s ok to be excited and proud but this is not about just her. It’s about you and her son. She should respect your wishes and be supportive.

I’d say something like ‘and if you’d like to be involved in your grand child’s life, stop telling people until we are ready to announce’… but that’s not particularly diplomatic. Sorry she’s blabbed before you had the chance to, that’s really rubbish

Next time, don't tell her till you're ready for the world to know!

Not her news to share at all! My mil has shared things that I had specifically asked not to be (my son's name before he was born), my best advice would be not to tell her anything private again.
