Sweeps

I had recently attended my 36 week midwife appointment and the midwife has suggested on my next appointment at 38 weeks they will start to offer the sweep from week 39 I think she said and agin at 41 weeks if overdue.
I know what the process is but wanted to reach out for any experiences, pros and cons etc. thanks in advance.

I had a sweep at 38 weeks, it was done in the morning and went into labour that afternoon, so worked well for me ☺️

I had a sweep at 39 weeks (Monday) a bit of brown spotting on Tuesday morning and contractions started Wednesday, baby born Thursday evening.(babies position made the birth longer so it would have been Wednesday tbh) so I’d say it worked for me. Hope this helps.

I had a sweep a few days before due date. Uncomfortable for a few seconds while being done. That night I had cramps but they slowed by morning. I went into labour about 3 days later

They can’t force you to have it. A lot of mothers would prefer to wait until naturally going into labour.
There is a fair number of negatives regarding sweeps, so read up about it.

I’ve never actually heard of sweeps given before due date unless they suspect baby is not getting enough nutrition etc. Then again I’m so not an expert!

I had sweep at 39 weeks, lost my mucus plug the next morning but then nothing progressed until I had a second sweep at 40 weeks pregnant- the next day my waters broke and I went into labour. It didn’t hurt when I had the sweep just felt a bit uncomfortable x

A sweep is a form of induction and can introduce infection. It also comes with risks.

I personally wouldn’t accept one at 38 weeks, you’re not even at 40 weeks yet.

Let your body and baby do their thing.. babies choose birthdays x

I went to have one done at 39 weeks but was told my cervix was too hard to reach (backwards tilting) 🤷🏻‍♀️ going to try again in a few more days as I’m 40+1 now so definitely worth waiting until after your due date, who knows I might just not be able to get them done but it’s great that it’s worked for so many women x
