My daughter is 20 weeks (4 months and 3 weeks) and I’ve been thinking about starting weaning early due to her awful reflux. The gp won’t give her anything apart from gaviscon which does not help at all. We go through roughly 12 bibs and 10 muslins a day and it’s just ridiculous. I’ve heard weaning can help the reflux. Interested to know if anyone else has started weaning yet and how you’re getting on??x

I’ve started slowly introducing new flavours to my 4 months, just when I’m eating soft food, I mash up a little in my hands and feed it to her.
But when she’s 5 months I will start her on a consistent puree diet alongside breastmilk.
We’ve been practicing eating for a couple weeks now and she’s slowly gotten better at mashing it with her gums. She only has like a thumb size at any one time and it’s not everyday.
The general advice is to wait till they’re 6 months and ready but many people also start early, I suggest starting with very soft food and puree, a small amount at first then make it a bit more consistent over time.
See how she does with little, its burns for them to make face and push it out with their tongue as they learn.
Try with foods that aren’t too strongly flavoured mixed with breastmilk or formula, potato, fruits and veg etc

Personally I would base this on how well she’s sitting up. She needs to be able to sit up to be able to swallow properly.
I started weaning my first at 5.5months as he was sitting up fine on his own.
I’m the same my baby has really bad reflux and j hope food will help him sleep and feel more comfortable

I started at 4 months and my son is doing really well, he use to get upset belly but since eating solids he is filling his nappy easily and his belly is much better! - my son can’t sit himself up fully yet only a bit, but I sit him up against a feeding pillow so is able to digest his food well. Pears are a great fruit to introduce x

My son has really bad reflux! I’d say we go through near enough the same amount of bibs a day. My washing machine is mainly bibs alone! He’s that bad bibs don’t even catch it, half of it ends up soaking through. He’s almost 5m old. I honestly wanted to wean him early, as it is supposed to help reflux. However I’ve done research into it and it’s actually worse for them. Their digestive systems are immature, which gives them the risk of infections / allergies. Also their gut lining is open which allows harmful proteins to get in. All on NHS website. I fully understand how eager you are to want to wean but honestly do your research. I’d love nothing more for my son to start food so it helps his reflux, as we’ve tried absolutely everything nothing helps. It’s rubbish, but I’ve only got 4 ish weeks to go! Xx
