Blood thinning injections

Hi mums, I’ve today started treatment for a possible blood clot (33+2), just waiting for the scan next week. They’ve started me on the injections tonight, first one in top of leg and it was sooo painful. Does anyone have any hints or tips of location to avoid the pain?!

I used to hold an ice cube on the skin where I was about to inject and it helped a little. Sending lots of positive vibes your way, they are grim!!

I used Emla numbing cream which the pharmacist recommended and it made them soooo much more bearable! Good luck, they are nasty things

I did solely stomach but I had them post partum for 6 weeks after a C-section so I'm not sure what it would be like doing it whilst pregnant in the stomach! On the instructions, they also say arms - could that work for you?

I had to inject since 28 week prenatally to 6 weeks postnatally I found the upper side of my thigh easiest. Pinch a big bit worked x

I was on them from 8 weeks pregnant up until 6 weeks post partum. I was told to only do it in the stomach and no where else. Find a fatty bit of stomach and pinch then inject. The bruises looked awful all over my stomach x

I couldn't do them myself, had to get my dad to do them as he done my mum's when she needed them before. I used to use something frozen on wherever I was getting it (I switched places every time), it helped ease it

Inject into the abdomen and do them quickly, I’m a nurse & har 30 weeks of them this pregnancy and that’s the best way! It’s the component that stings rather than the needle xx

Omg I had this 😭 I had blood clots in my lungs 💔 At least you’re nearly at the end

For me the pain didn’t get easier, god forbid but if you do end up having to take them for the rest of the time switch legs as much as you can because the bruises/lumps are not a joke. I hope you have a safe rest of your pregnancy and labour X

Thank you so much everyone! The midwife did the thigh earlier and it was just sooo painful! I’m going to have my husband inject me and ChatGPT was suggesting into the love handle is a good place so I think we’ll try that in the morning with some ice and pray for the best and pray for no clot on the scan next week!!
