Epimax - avoid!

My little one has eczema on her head which appears quite red and sore. I visited the doctor to ask for a prescription as my current products weren’t working well. They suggested Epimax.

I applied this cream to her head where the redness is. My LO occasionally scratches her head which has led her to rub her eye without me noticing. Now her right eye is incredibly sore red and swollen because the cream got in. We couldn’t figure out the cause for a while but discussing it here we realised it’s the Epimax that’s causing her eye to swell. The cream has made her eczema even drier, redder and more swollen on her head and she’s actually more irritable. It’s done the complete opposite of what I was hoping for.

The original post advised GPs to avoid prescribing this medication for facial or head use due to potential toxicity damage. Symptoms can include pain swelling redness or watering of the eyes sensitivity to light blurred vision burning or grittiness.

I’m so annoyed that my doctor didn’t discuss this and now my baby is really upset. We’re currently doing eyewashes to try and remove any residue but we’ll return to the doctor or urgent care for a proper eye wash.

I wish I’d researched this app before applying it to ensure it wouldn’t be harmful to her. The lesson learned is to do my own research even before a doctor prescribes something. I’m going to try the Aveeno soothing relief cream as it’s highly rated on the ‘Yuka’ app.

I’m simply echoing my experience using Epimax cream for eczema. I hope this advice will be helpful to any new members who might encounter similar issues.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

My little boy had a rash on his neck and top of the chest and we also got prescribed Epimax. After a few days of using it the rash got much more red and spread. Decided to stop using it and used Sudocrem instead - the rash already looked better after one application. I wish I stopped using the cream sooner as his skin is still very dry and not back to normal 😢

We were given epimax for my toddler and it was awful just didn’t help her excema in anyway. It’s frustrating trying to find products that actually help but when given something that the makes it worse it’s like you go back to square one. I’ve found it’s all trial and error and I now only go back to the dr if it gets really bad and I need steroid cream. (Which I only use on bad flare ups). Balmonds Skin salvation balm is working well for us at the moment x
