My husband and I are expecting in a few months. We are just about the only younger people we know who are practicing Catholics (we’re 27 & 32). We live in a large city and being religious is “uncool” with the 40 and under crowd— IYKYK.
We’re struggling around the idea of Godparents because it’s important to us that our child has that opportunity to have that relationship with a couple that is important to us, but we don’t want to just choose the like 1 couple that hasn’t outwardly denounced religion. We’re gonna baptize them regardless.
We’ve tried to meet people in our parish but they’re mostly elderly. Being “young” Catholics is one thing, but being a “young” Catholic couple with a baby on the way is another— but that is a discussion for another time 😂

Do you have family that you can choose as godparents? If not, ask for assistance at your parish. I’m sure your priest or someone knows someone who’d be willing to step up.

We are (or were, I guess) in the same situation as you. My kids each only have a godmother. My son's godmother is my husband's godmother, so she's not in our generation. Shortly before getting pregnant with my daughter, I made a very good friend who I asked to be my daughter's godmother as soon as I found out she was Catholic 😂

Do you not have family that you can pick?

I know sometimes you can ask nuns to be god mothers!

Ask your priest, my husband asked mine and we got a great couple for my kids and also for ourselves.
Thank you for your comments ladies ❤️
