Dressing up during new born phase?

Hello mammas!
Im a first time mom and this might sound like a silly question but how should you dress a baby before the umbilical cord stump falls off?
Im wondering if regular onesies might rub against it or if that’s actually totally fine? Should I buy those kimono suit sets? That are like open and airy and buttons are in front?
What are the safest clothing choices during that time?

I would recommend sleep gowns! They have an elastic at the bottom. They make them in both boy and girl patterns at Carters! Used them for my daughter when she was fresh and they were amazing. Makes diaper changes easier too :))

You can totally dress them in onsies and regular clothes during that stage. Just be careful that you aren't too rough as you are dressing the baby. Those sleep gowns are nice to use but you aren't going to take your baby outside in that obviously

Sleep suits with zips worked for me. Just remember to be careful when dressing baby. Also fold the top of your baby’s diaper over so the belly button is exposed it will stop it getting caught on the diaper

Just used normal vests with my first. Though the kimono style vests worked great for ease of dressing while you're still getting used to it! (Lay baby on an open vest) Sleep gowns are also really nice for night time changes. But usually I'd do a vest and onesie/babygro for the newborn stage, unless you're in a really warm climate

We used normal vests, you just have to be careful when passing the belly button. It’s not difficult, don’t worry. Kimonos are ok as well, but think on how will you put them to sleep.
we didn’t like kimonos bcos we use the love to dream swaddles, whose back is weaker than the front, so he would have 2 layers on the back and 4+ on the front.

Just plain old footed onsies are fine. I wouldn't get too fancy with any clothing until the umbilical cord falls off.

Personally I dont think newborns need pants lol, everyone is different but if it’s warm enough my baby just wears a onsie no pants and if it’s cold we use the zipper sleepers! Very has any issues
