Last February, I was served an eviction notice from my flat (worked and lived above a pub). Company was going into administration so I couldn't stay there & there wasn't any suitable jobs around childcare.
My brother willingly gave up his house (our grandparents house which he took on when they passed). When me, my partner and our 3 year old moved into his house last March, we fell in love with it and asked to buy him out of it. He agreed. Didn't want it anymore, it's our forever family home etc.
He moved back in with our parents last March when we moved into the house. I've paid regularly to him and he's decided he wants the house back. He's gave us 2 months to find somewhere to live.
How can he go back on his word? How can he put his 3 year old niece on the street?
Would you let him a part of your family?

Damn what’s his reasoning?
parents are doing his head in and he wants his space back!

If it's your grandparents' house, why does he get it? Was it left to him?

If you didn’t have a contract then he can do whatever he wants as he owns it.
family arrangements he gets their house I get my parents.
he can do what he wants but would you allow him to be part of your Nieces life? I'll survive. I'll find somewhere. It's more of how he's done this to his own niece.

It's a shitty move, but if he needs his own space and has nowhere and that his house, then what else can he do? When you agreed to buy him out, what's the timeframe on that? Can you afford to do that now? Would that then mean he can buy his own house?
I've offered to give him a huge chunk towards a flat/house for himself but he's adamant he wants the house. We spoke in depth about this exact scenario and he promised hed never want to come back, it didn't matter if it took 10 years to pay him.

Over time I’d likely forget about it. He gave 60 days notice, hopefully that’s enough time so you’re not on the street. People go back on their word all the time. Use this as a learning experience.

It's a really unfortunate situation to be in, especially because it's family, so it's really tough, but unfortunately, if it's his house and he wants it back then theirs nothing you can do, hopefully it doesn't effect your relationship too much. If you have a huge chunk towards a house, then can you look for one to put a deposit down for your own house? Surely he would give you more time if you need it and he won't make you homeless? Just speak with him and tell him that it's really upset you and really extremely disappointed that he's gone back on his word, but you may need more time to look for a house.
Have you had the conversation with him and asked him why if you can give him a huge amount to out down on a house why he wants the house back when he said that he wouldn't go back on his word? Would it be financially worse off for him?

Should have made a legal contract in the moment.
On the other hand 2 months is not a lot of time even if it is the bare minimum legal requirement.
i would try to renegotiate the time with a reasonable rental lease if he really wants the house back, it his but if he wants to save the family connection he could give more time an allow you to save money and prepare so that you could buy instead of rent. I know you say you will be receiving your parent’s house but how long would it be until then? You need a home for your family until the arrangements settle.
obviously since he has shown to change his mind i would get everything in legal writing from this point forward for any agreements.

I mean not ideal but I guess if you’re getting your parents house eventually can’t you tell him you’ll keep your grandparents and he can have you’re parents ? Also if you can afford to buy him out why don’t you just buy a different house ? If he’s given you 2 months he’s hardly throwing you out on the street
