My newborn is 10 days old and has been quite red in colour, midwife said it’s due to good blood flow but I can’t actually see her skin tone yet since she’s so red. Has anyone experienced this? She is also jaundice. Sometimes I can see her skin tone when the redness goes down other times her tone changes, a lot of my in laws have made comments like “why is she so red” and “ why is she so black” it’s very upsetting and racist as we are Pakistani. I have clapped back at the comments because it very much is upsetting to comment on my newborns skin tone. I have read that the natural skin tone can take a few weeks to come through but the redness is just so red. Anyone had this?

I had similar, when my 2nd child came along, he was grey in the water bath and every time he was held upright his face would go bright red! I have never seen such a thing!
Im sri lankan, we are all very brown and never turn red 🤣 but my husband is more mixed and his mums side very fair Indian and they do turn red a lot. My 1st is pretty dark skinned…. My theory is that my 2nd is not just very fair skinned but also has very good blood flow to the skin. And that means they stay pretty warm too - he is easy to transfer to a cot since he was born and sleeps happily on his own and spreads out as his skin is so red n warm… my eldest on the other hand is always cold like me and doesn’t sleep well on his own at all
If your midwife isnt worried i wouldnt worry but if the comments hurt you, do whatever you feel is right. But if its too much energy to tell ppl off, ur always welcome to stop visitors for now and take time to be with ur baby. I hid away for 2 months!

It will take more than a month don't worry the redness will go inshala
