For about 6 months we have had the bathroom steps, and a potty downstairs - constantly talking about wees/poos, showing him his poo, sitting him on potty etc. preparing him but I knew he wasn’t quite ready.
About 6 weeks we took his potty to nursery and started using pants - he was at the point where he was doing most of his wees on the toilet so we took the plunge and put him in pants (apart from nap/ bedtime)
It’s been almost 3 weeks and I would say he does 75% of his wees on potty/ toilet, but the rest he just does in his pants (especially if he’s eating/ playing). We are constantly reminding him to sit on potty but he usually says no unless he really needs to go. He’s doing pretty much every single poo either in his nappy at nap time/ morning or also in his pants which is obviously horrific to clean up 🤢 We are using chocolate buttons as rewards!
So I’m basically cleaning pee and poo multiple times daily 🤣 should I persevere or is this normal still at around the 3 week mark?!

Id recommend the oh crap potty training book. Not sure if you followed that originally, but it recommends a first day with no trousers or pants on (naked from bottom half down) and then it recommends not to put pants on for at least a few weeks (so just trousers, no pants). The rationale is that because nappies are so absorbent now, they feel very similar to pants so kids may just continue to have accidents in pants because they do it automatically (especially if not thinking about it/ distracted). If it were me id go back to basics and start potty training from scratch, using a more structured approach. We are on day 3 of potty training today and my son is just wearing trousers on his bottom half. We have had no accidents since yesterday lunch time. I know there are bound to be some, but i do think the oh crap approach is good x

Seconding the oh crap method! I'd also stop using chocolate buttons as a reward - you want him to use a potty because it's a sign of maturity, not because it means chocolate, I'd swap a reward for saying "wow you used the potty/toilet like a big boy"
