My best friend is I think 6 years younger than her partner, they're now buying a house together and she's finished uni and now about to drive. He helped her grow up which is something her parents prevented her from doing, they gave her tons of anxiety about things growing up that always just made her scared to do things. I think they're perfect together and have been together since like 16 (they met in person years later dw)
And now my sister has also jumped on the train, I don't know what age gap they have but I'm pretty sure he's old enough to be our dad 😅

Avatar

Id date up to 10 years older (I'm 26) based off character. In some cases I really domt see it a big deal

Avatar

When I was younger I liked the maturity and stability of older men, hubby is 6yrs older than me. If I was to date now i wouldn’t mind going for younger, i got hit on the other week and in our banter I asked how old he was, he was 29 😂 he thought I was only a couple years older than him lol. I’m much more than a “couple years” older than him lol.

Avatar

Even just over 5 years is too much for me

Avatar

It’s a no from me, I saw a lot of younger girls in sixth form dating older men and now in my 30s it was honestly just grooming.

I personally wouldn’t date anyone younger than me, I have nothing in common with a boy in his early 20s.

Only had the one relationship and he’s 7 months older than me.

Avatar

I had a bad experience with an 8 year gap - I was 22 and he was an incredibly immature 30 year old.

So I wouldn't go more than say 3-5 years older now tbh as I'd start questioning why women their own age don't want them.

My husband is just under a year older so it's not really a thing.

Avatar

My husband is 7 years older than me. I don’t think it makes a difference once you’re older than 25

Avatar

I’d probably do no more than 10 years right now but that’s because I’m at a confident developed 30. If I were say 20 I wouldn’t date a 30 year old that seems weird and I think only a cradle robbing perv would want that anyways

Avatar

I'm 11 years older than my husband. Not the age gap I'd normally go for but we click 😅

Avatar

My partner is 12.5 years old than me. We met when I was 26 and he was 38 (almost 39). I’m now 29 and he’s 41 (almost 42). He is my best friend, and absolutely the love of my life. We have a 1.5 year old together and he has a 11.5 year old from a previous relationship.
I didn’t set out for a giant age gap relationship but we met, and clicked and have never looked back.
I have a few other friends in my circle with similar age gaps and they all work.
I don’t think age really matters in the long run. Personality matches and just a genuine care for each other are way more important to me. Everyone deserves love and to me age is just a number.

With age gaps I think it can’t be overstated enough that money and the power dynamic needs to be examined as well to see if it’s a creep issue lol. If a 30 year old man is well established, already making good money in his career and is with a 20 year old who is maybe still in school or financially struggling, brain not even fully developed, having to rely on him for material conditions I think that will always be a “get the f out” type of relationship to me like I can’t be convinced that he’s not wanting someone naive to manipulate

Avatar

I honestly think it depends on the people themselves. I was with someone who was 10 years older than me who had 2 kids (they were never the issue) at first it was great but it became apparent he was very immature and just a liar and a cheat. However, my parents had an 18 year age gap and they had the best relationship ever and honestly still would have if they didnt unfortunately both pass. I think it all depends on the individuals rather than the age gap

Avatar

My husband is a year older than me. I would never date younger and I don’t plan to ever find myself dating again. But if I did. I would only date people older than me who are rich. So 🤷🏼‍♀️

Avatar

5ish years is my limit. And that’s older not younger. I couldn’t mess with anyone more than 1yr younger.

Avatar

I’ve never dated past 3 years but I’d do 5 years max I think.

Avatar

My husband is 7 years older than me. When I was in my early 20s, I dated a 30 year old and we had literally nothing in common. At that point, the age gap was too large. Now, it seems fine and I don’t feel like we are generations apart. 😊

Avatar

My husband is 17 years older than me , I don’t think age is a huge factor especially when it comes to where in life you both are and maturity of both people ( it was definitely a shock to alot of people) but our age gap has never caused problems and we honestly forget about it most of the time

Avatar

I’m 5 years older than my partner, he likes to remind me sometimes how old I am haha but other than that we don’t notice it

Avatar

I couldn’t be with someone more than a few years younger or a decade older. It is sus imo when a significantly older person goes for a new adult

Avatar

My partner is 5 years older than me. I prefer people older than me,that goes for friends as well. Ive always been more mature for my age due to the fact I had to grow up and look after myself from an early age compared to some people. I was looking after myself at 15 by 16 I lived on my own. I just don’t really relate to anyone younger than me and honestly the people I have met that are my age aren’t good people and all talk weird lol. Me and my partner click. Id like to say that Ive had to start this life sooner than I imagined like getting pregnant at 19 but it actually seems better to me because women are the ones who only have so long to have kids.

15 yrs

There’s a 6 year gap between me and my husband I was 21 when we got together 12 years ago I don’t really think anything of it and forget he’s a bit older than I am, although we are having our third baby in June he will be 8 months away from turning 40 and says he feels old this time round i personally don’t feel any older than I did when I had my first 4.5 years ago

Avatar

My hubby is 4 years younger than me.

Avatar

At this age, 10 years older is my max. 5 years younger is my min.

Avatar

I’m 6 years older than my husband

I had two separate relationships with men who were way too old for me. I say way too old because we were definitely at different places in our lives. The 1st one was almost 15 years older than me. He had his life super together. Owned his house, had been at his job for 17 years, had a big savings to fall back on. It was definitely just a sexual relationship, and he definitely just used me for THREE YEARS. I left that relationship and started dating a guy almost 13 years older than me. He was a MESS. lived in a mobile home on his friend’s property, couldn’t hold a job for more than 3 months, and just blew his money on video games and DoorDash. Everything about him irritated the crap out of me. He was so immature and couldn’t ever hold a serious conversation, and the sex sucked. It also really bothered me that he still talked to the person he lost his virginity to, like he talked to her everyday. He tried to propose to me after 10 months. I broke up with him.

Avatar

My largest gap would only be about 5 years. My exhusband was the only person older than me I'd ever been with and he was about 4.5 years older.

I think there's a lot to Consider here though. 18 and 40+ isn't appropriate IMO. 30 and 50. Whatever. However I'd personally not want a partner way older or younger because the likelihood of one dying way before the other is too high for me.

Avatar

Think people saying they don't know what people in an age gap relationship could have in common are a bit rude 😅 I think all couples are different and if nobody is taking advantage of the other person and they're both happy it's really nobody else's business (obviously assuming everyone is an adult). My partner are over a decade apart and we might have different interests and different tastes in music but we have the same morals, the same ethics, the same humour. We enjoy going on the same sort of dates, love a giggle over a few cocktails. I dated a few guys closer to my age and they weren't that great 😅 infact I had one guy tell me I was "used goods" and should just be his fwb because I had kids. My partner although younger has accepted me and my kids as a package and treats them like his own.

Avatar

I would go older now that I am older. But not in my early 20s!

Avatar

It depends when they met. If they were both in the same stage of life as well at the point of meeting. Personally I've only dated people within 2/3 years of my own age

Avatar

I don’t think I would want to date anyone younger than me, it’s probably a bit of a sweeping generalisation but I think women always mature quicker than men so for me, a man still in their 20s would not be appealing. As for older, even up to 20 years older would be ok with me. But then so much depends on what stage of life you are in and the dynamics.

Avatar

In my late teens / early twenties I think 5 years was my max but then at 26 I met my fiancé and he’s 9 years older 💁🏻‍♀️ when your good together it just works ☺️

Avatar

I don’t think the age gap matter as much as the maturity level of both partners. My husband and I have a 5 year age gap. It will be our 12 year anniversary since we started dating, married for 6. We joke that for people in the west our age gap will be scandalous especially considering the fact we were 19/24 when we got together. We were friends prior to dating, part of the same friend group which in my culture it is pretty common to be friends with people from very different ages. When we got together we were both on the same page regarding life goals, education, career, experience living in different countries, we were both building out lives and we chose to do it together. He is my partner in crime and is the person I feel I can be truly myself with.

Avatar

One of my previous relationships I had there was a very big age gap, people often thought he was my dad when we was out and about 😂

Avatar

My husband and I are 5 years apart. My mil and fil were 12 years apart
I had a casual hookup with a guy that had a kid my age (he had this kid when he was 18). He had just had his second divorce. Very attractive, very nice, very well off. He would take me out to eat, take me out shopping, etc so it was nice. We ended it when he started getting deep feelings and he knew we were at different points in our life and I would still want kids someday. I was like 22 at this point.

Avatar

My boyfriend is 6.5 years older but I wouldn’t date any older than 10 years and even when I did date a couple guys 10 years older they were still more immature than guys closer to my age.

Avatar

My husband is the same age as me and is mature and comes from a nice family back ground my family they have big age gaps but the men are older if u marry a younger guy I’ve seen it a lot he won’t commit as he hasn’t matured yet

Avatar

I’m in a 13 year age gap relationship. My husband being older. It’s nice but the age difference definitely shows up in some aspects

Avatar

I dated an older man once , it was corona and I thought older meant mature . After 1 year of going out I asked what are we , he said that he is still getting to know me.

That’s where I ended it .

Dated some more 🐸 in between.

Years later I met my husband who’s 2 yrs younger.

Avatar

Depends on the gap. I would go upto 10 years older but only maybe 3 years younger. My current partner is younger than me by 2 years and it works great. He's one of the more mature guys I've dated. I've dated a guy 5 years older who was really immature. I think it depends more on character than their birth year. My grandparents are 20 years apart and I find it really disturbing

Avatar

If u love the person age gap doesn't matter. Me & hubby are 12 yrs apart ☺️ feels like 0!

Avatar

If I’m being honest to me age gap on matters when you are 25-27 dating an 18-20 year old because in my opinion you have nothing in common with someone that young and why as a man how do you even really want to be with someone that young and not feel comfortable.. my reasoning for as a man too is not to be discriminatory but because it is mainly men I’ve seen do this

Avatar

This is not a poll?

Avatar

Didn't work out for me. Ex was older and had a superior attitude because he's been around longer than me and he ended up abusing me. However, I've had friends recently that married much older guys than the one I was dating and are so happy..

Avatar

When I was 19 I was with a 36yr old. We were together for nearly 5 years. This is a pretty big age gap. The biggest concern that used to run through my head was later on in life then it starts to show and it did. However at that time I just didn't care as loved him.

Avatar

I was almost 19 when I got w my sons father (he was 32). The relationship was emotionally abusive and I feel groomed even tho it was legal. I’m engaged now.. I’m 28 almost 29, he’s 30 almost 31. If I was single I’d stay within 5 years

Avatar

I always have tended to date older! I feel too mature for my age, but still haven’t found someone that’s locked in on the same level as me! I’ve dated 3 years older and 20 years older. Still haven’t found anyone who resonates with my level of intelligence 😂😂🫠

Avatar

There's 11 years difference between my husband & I. We have a healthy relationship & it does work for us.

This has got me having mixed emotions over how I'd feel about my daughters dating older guys/men (or even an older girl/woman if that's their preference). When they are old enough to decide for themselves. I feel like I'd be a hypoctrite to tell them 'no, don't do that' or, to encourage them to be in relationships with people their own age. At the same time, I'd like to protect them from predators (granted the guy who abused me was my age, so really its more the person than how old they are). Hmph! This is a tough one🤔

Avatar

My husband and I are 8 years and we’ve always had an awesome relationship. It’s more about how you pair honestly. But I wouldn’t go much bigger than that because then you start to have too different of situations you are in, in your life
