Almost everything needs improvement and I’m worried about it. I broke my ankle and got surgery so my husband has been doing drop offs and pick ups. But before the teacher never mentioned he was doing horrible or anything. The only red flag I knew of was behavior and that was getting better. My son is A LOT he’s super curious which I personally think it’s a good thing but it gets him in a lot of trouble. From what I see he’s an amazing problem solver. I think he’s definitely a little behind in some areas but I didn’t think he’s that behind. I requested a conference with his teacher. Should I be worried?

That “teacher” wrote conversating more than once. I wouldn’t trust a word she says.

I'll admit to not knowing or understanding this form which makes it harder to comment however I want to point out that it's aimed at development at 36 months. OK your son is only 3 months short of that but in these early years so much can change in 3 months. Personally I would not worry. A conference with his teacher may be good for you to better understand what's going on but it's entirely possible these are all things he is learning and developing towards but just hasn't quite got there yet.
Honestly not liking how it seems to be either a good or bad answer on this. There should be room for the grey area of on the right track because 'needs development' can almost sound a bit negative like they're not doing what they should be when actually they may be very close

This doesn’t seem like that bad of a report to me. If your pediatrician isn’t worried, I would not worry

That was such a hard time for me and I HATED daycare but had no better choice. Those people may mean well but they don’t necessarily know how to deal with kids with special needs - be that autism, ADHD or gifted kids that need to be challenged intellectually to stay out of trouble. Hang in there and fight for your kid. Kids learn at different rates and they’re all unique - doesn’t necessarily mean something is “wrong” with them or that you are doing anything wrong. ❤️

I voted yes because I'd be worried about what kind of facility you have him in that makes these kind of assessments. I don't know how normal that is where you're from, but I've never heard of it and found it to be quite damaging to kids much older getting assessed at school. Why do they do this at a daycare?

That looks very scribbly for a professional...I'd actually be embarrassed to hand that to a parent. You know your child better than anyone and if you feel he's improving then that's great. It wouldn't hurt to have a chat with the GP if you agree with any of this regarding social emotional and communication and believe he could benefit from being assessed as early intervention can be crucial. There's no shame in that at all and it would just mean him and you get some support if and when you need it. Also remember he's still so little and learning all the time. Children push boundaries, act on impulse and develop in their own time.

I feel like the teacher doesn't like your son, I would take him out of this daycare if it was my child. The only positive the teacher wrote was "he has grown from the beginning of the year" ???!!

Fair enough, I just don't see my toddlers creche as an educational facility. I see it as a carers facility and feel like assessments of this kind get in the way of that. Like what are their credentials to even make such judgements and what does it say about how they're treating him if they feel this way about him....

Just want to point out its daycare not school. They arent teachers. Its important to be aware of challenges he may be facing so that you can better support him. I would definitely ask to for a meeting to find out what their plan is to support him better while hes there.

Honestly I wouldn’t worry about it. Every kid is so different and they all progress on their own timeline. I know some kids that seemed a little behind other kids their age and the. One day it’s like things clicked for them and they caught up super fast. Like others have said, he’s only in daycare. He shouldn’t be expected to act older than he is and understand everything perfectly. He’s not even 3 yet. Don’t worry Mama, he’s gonna be fine. Just do your part and I’m sure he will get to where he needs to be when he needs to be there

Pfft, my 4yr old (non daycare) kid would probably score the same as yours.
If his communication is low, he might be struggling to play with others. I would ask for a different assessment for speech. This was happening to mine at age 3. Birth-3 early intervention passed him out, but as soon as he turned 3 and was able to assess through the school district, he qualified and got speech therapy since. He was improved so much since then. He started about a year behind and is now (a year later) within months of his peers.

The teacher only made comments on all the developments she believes he needs improvement on and didn’t write any comments on the things he was excelling in which I find kinda odd. I wouldn’t listen to this report. My daughter goes to a preschool 2 times a week and the teacher was worried about her speech but she’s just a shy kid as she will talk about the most random things at home. She’ll just ramble on until I tell her to stop. Her speech also didn’t get really good until after 3 years old. You also can’t really expect a child under 3 to be showing much independence for example. I wouldn’t worry about it. It sounds like she dislikes him and is singling him out

I think it's important to also remember that yes, many daycare providers are educated in child development. But they also need very limited education and cannot diagnose or anything.
If you notice a speech delay in your kiddo then take him in to be observed. It's important to catch it on the front end too.
However just because she's watching your kiddo for part of the day doesn't mean that she knows/has the education in proper child development past a possible associates/bachelors.
UPDATE! We switched daycares and he’s doing amazing! 1 month in 😊 so happy…the new daycare said he’s a really well rounded kid
