Pumping with flat/inverted nipples

I have a question, I have both flat and inverted nipples and exclusively pump. However I am really struggling to find my correct flange size, no matter which size I try I experience some discomfort and sometimes even pain. I’m currently using 17mm and 19mm but my nipple still is sore and red and swollen afterwards. I don’t know how to actually measure it properly as I don’t really know where my nipple starts and ends, but I need to find my correct flange size in just unsure of how.

So it’s def more an art than science! The nipple measuring thing is very useful, it’s just the center bit you measure - which might not be super helpful for you. Try getting them very cold and see if that helps getting a measurement.
It also depends on your nipple elasticity .. so I just tried every size they gave me to see what felt best. Don’t go full power straight away. Start slow on the massage setting if possible then slowly increase after a few minutes till it starts- the aim is to trigger a let down/automatic release not squeeze it out of you. It helps to be relaxed so watching your sleeping baby of looking at cute photos will help. Good luck x

You can buy a nipple extender or just ice them to pop them out. I would see a LC to measure them...its literally just the nipple not the areola. No part of the areola should be entering the pump.

Would also add that some pumps are better than others for certain breasts...I couldnt use the portable wearable ones...had to use the duck beak style.
