Why does everything feel worse at night time?

Does anyone else experience this?
Things that never cross your mind in the day suddenly become all you can think about, maybe things like family members dying, your house burning down, losing your job or your car being stolen. Not a daily worry but somehow you become convinced it will happen when you're lying in bed trying to sleep.
I also feel so much more emotional too and I cry thinking about my kids growing up too fast or about the bundle of my son's clothes someone wants to buy on vinted that suddenly I can't bear to part with

Is this just me? Surely we all do it...

It's normal I think. I found the headspace app sleep stories really helpful when I was struggling the most with this. It's just a little unwind exercise and then a really basic story - something to listen to that stops you thinking but not so interesting you can't sleep. Now I'm in a better place, I just use familiar audiobooks, I know exactly what's going to happen but it's enough to lull me to sleep. I just pop one headphone in and listen quietly, I've never missed the monitor!

Nighttime anxiety is the brain's way of relieving unresolved stress. It's natural, but if it's disruptive and keeping you up at night, try keeping a small notepad beside your bed and just write the thoughts down as they happen. It seems silly, but this trick is actually documented to help with nighttime anxiety. The simple act of writing things down tells your brain that it's "taken care of" and will be resolved, and it puts the thoughts to rest.

“never go to bed angry” is the worst relationship advice everrrr. like usually you actually need a meal or a sleep to realize it’s not that big of a deal

This! I'm always freaking out that someone is going to break into my house and steal my daughter. There's nothing behind it and no reason I should feel that way but so often at night that anxiety hits me ..

It's the only time we stop and have quiet, so brains go into overtime!
I listen to harry potter audiobooks, people do a chapter at a time on YouTube, it's perfect for me and I'm usually asleep after a few paragraphs

I got the sundown scaries so often the first year to 18m. I felt like it was part of PPA. The evening things slow down and that’s when you have more time to think about all the scary things. It got better luckily but remembering you’re safe and protected are important. ❤️
