My husband and I have decided 8 years ago that we will gift each other experiences rather than material gifts. We do occasionally buy things for each other like clothes, accessories or sports items. We have 3year old daughter now and our life is busy. We are tired and hardly find time of ourselves as we don’t have family in this country.
We do try to go on quick lunch or coffee dates. But if I don’t plan anything for special days like my birthday or our anniversary, my husband won’t bother. I am low maintenance and minimalist. He thinks, I don’t need be made feel special .. There is no gesture this year and not even a coffee date 😪
I feel so sad and I don’t know why .. It feels like no one cares that I was born and no one cares that I live the life I do .. I contribute so much in this family but there is nothing I get in return even on my birthday .. small gifts like mixed tea box or just flowers will do ..
I am trying so hard to cheer myself up and do something on my own. But I am just crying .. I am not weak person but this year I am feeling so sad ..

Happy birthday to you! Lots of people care that you were born and are so happy that you’re around them, in particular your daughter 💕
You deserve to have a special day - could you book a treat for yourself? A massage, get your nails done, go to the bookshop and treat yourself to a new book? Whatever you enjoy, spend some time doing it today.
Is your daughter at home today? If so, take her somewhere to choose your birthday cake - she gets to choose based on what you love. She might choose chocolate or mermaids etc, and you can go home and eat cake together. If she’s in childcare then do this on the way home and have a cake party before bed as a treat.
Try and romanticise the little bits of the day - light a candle, have a cup of tea with your feet up and your favourite show on, buy yourself some flowers and put music on.
I’m sorry nobody is there to do these things for you - I wish I could do them! Have a super day xx

Happy birthday.
I hope you did have a lovely day.
It's my birthday soon and I don't so things for me anymore on it but I chose that. I like to do things with the kids so I pick what I want to do, we do a day out for the kids and I love it, we have fun and then go for food after as a family. Maybe try that so then it's still about you but your making fun memories with your little one. Take plenty photos and make a scrap book of mammys birthday and add a photo every year. It's something to look back on.
You could get a cake you like and pop a candle on and ask your husband to take a photo of you and your little girl blowing the candle out and as she grows you's can start doing more things even a nice girly pamper birthday, going for a coffee and babycino together x
Thank you ladies xx I did have nice birthday and my husband managed to buy flowers, card, balloons and cake. We celebrated it with our daughter who was super happy and seeing her excitement, I forgot all the sadness.
I will definitely plan something good and meaningful next time for my birthday and not rely on my husband.
Hopefully, he will do something after I have expressed my disappointment this year.
Men need spoon feeding all the time and it’s exhausting 🙄
