Gum recession

Hi guys, I’ve got some severe gum recession to the point in which, my teeth are hanging on for dear life. It’s making me so anxious about being seen by a dentist. I know I’m going to need a lot of work done. Does anyone know what sort of work it might be and what it’s like please?
Very nervous!

Hi mama
Sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing this, it’s understandable you’ve been feeling anxious.
Rest assured, the sooner you attend the sooner you’ll have the situation treated.
I’ll give you a general breakdown, but won’t be able to give you specific information without examining you.
A dentist will do a general exam of your teeth and gums, noting any fillings, decay, broken teeth etc. regarding the gums they will take measurements of the depth of the gum attachment around your teeth, this can be a little pokey but should be bearable. They’ll record any gum recession, moving teeth and take x-rays to measure any bone loss. You’ll hear them call out numbers when they take the measurements which can sound daunting but it gives us an idea about the level of treatment you may need. This can involve treatment by a hygienist who will provide you with thorough oral hygiene instruction and cleaning of your teeth and gums

If further treatment is needed in more severe cases, you would be referred to a periodontist who is a gum specialist, and amazing treatments can be done to restore your oral health.
Please do attend as soon as you can, you are not obliged to do any treatment, but it’ll be good for you to get an idea of what treatment may be needed. I promise you it gets easier as things become more under control. Feel free to ask any questions. Wishing you luck xx

So gum grafts aim at restoring receded gums, but won’t unfortunately manage bone loss which is the cause for wobbly teeth. Surgery may be an option but realistically it may be that these teeth are removed with scope for a replacement option such as implants, a fixed bridge or a denture. Your medical and social history would be taken into consideration for suitability of these options.
