We went on a holiday with another couple and we split the car rental. We also spilt the gas and tolls and parking fees. My husband did all the driving. The other husband did all the navigation. Months later we have been slapped with $300 in other fines (we were in another country). We’ve told the other couple. They said we shouldn’t pay the fines and/or dispute it. We decided to pay since they keep sending notices and threat of debt collection agencies. We didn’t want to have to pay even more. We told the couple. They asked if they should pay half? I personally would have offered half right off the bat. What are we thinking? The notices were legit and sent by the cities law enforcement.

Fines for what exactly?

What were the fines for and why did you not dispute it? That would help with who should pay it. They wanted to dispute it so clearly didn't think you should have been fined so for them to still offer half is decent? Need a bit more context to vote :)

They thought you should fight it so they didn’t offer half at the start. Since they offered half now I would either take them up on the offer or say no we got it. I don’t think it is worth losing a friendship over so I wouldn’t fight over $150 if they don’t pay you back.

If they offered to pay half I would accept the offer.

Hmm unsure here part of me says yes accept the offer say thanks take it say no more but then other half is saying well it wasn’t them driving it was you’re partner so his responsibility?
