Set very clear boundaries with partner so he doesn't get complacent

See if you can visit when homeowner is around, be friendly. They obviously don't want to feel like they are being treated with acute suspicion in their own home, but you can get a feeling of them, though of course there's no real knowing at times

Teach child about boundaries for child's sake and homeowner's

Start your child off with short visits before longer ones

I would treat it like a new partner. Ask to meet them a couple times, and if you feel comfortable, go for it. If not, dont.

While there’s probably nothing wrong with his living situation, this is technically inappropriate when he has kids and is dealing with a separation and custody.

When my parents separated my dad would rent a room. His work was near a bunch of huge houses and there's always older couples renting out spare rooms. I would go and visit him for a few hours but if we weren't driving around then we'd stay in his room. And often times the owners of the house wouldn't even be around because they were on vacation 🤷🏽‍♀️ I would say if you trust that theyre responsible then you know they wouldn't let anything happen to your child and as long as it's a clean environment then everything should be fine
