Strawberry birth mark / heamagioma

Hiiii šŸ‘‹ my little girl has a heamagioma on her eye, we went to the GP at 7 weeks, got referred to dermatology & seen at 12 weeks who told me there was nothing they could do & referred us onto plastics. We’re still waiting to be seen! It’s in one of the treatment areas but not even started treatment yet 😩 has anyone else had this problem? How’s everyone’s babies? Are they on propanolol?

i have seen this first time what is this did she ate some thing? like why she got this?

My boy had that strawberry mark on the top of his head, when he was close to his first birthday I've noticed the size getting smaller, he's 19 months old now and it's completely gone

My 7months old has it by his ear. The pediatrician told that usually they start getting smaller and most of the times disappear completely from 1 yr old. There are also some creams that help to make them disappear but that later in few years if necessary

My little girl has 4 of these, the worst on her arm, she has one on her middle finger, back of leg and bottom of her back. We only had treatment for the one on her arm as it became ulcerated and it was literally just antibiotic cream and an ointment but we were told if it continues to ulcerate we can opt for treatment such as propranolol drops

My baby has one in her leg

My daughter has one on her back. Her gp measures it regularly and it hasn’t changed. He said sometimes they get bigger and then shrink back down. He said you we didn’t need to do anything, as long as it’s not raised and growing. Not sure about facial ones though

My baby has one on her upper lip and one on the back of her head. They appeared about 2 months after birth. The one on her head grew a little but not much. Continue to monitor the growth.

I was born with one! I’m 25 years old. Mines was on my neck and actually got super large. I had ended up getting surgery for reconstruction on my ear from it. But no problems. I forget I have it now lol. I’m absolutely healthy as well!

My daughter has one in her bottom eyelid. It looks more like a bruise. It was there at birth but grew steadily as she did. She’s 5 now and was seeing an ophthalmologist (for something different) who then referred us onto the children’s hospital, where we seen the dermatology team and the vascular anomolies team. We have done three rounds of sclerotherapy over a three month period - and have a review in about 6 months from now. After the first round there was a noticeable difference, but by the time we did the second and third session it was back to were we were to begin with, there is no major change in size, colour etc.
We’re in Sydney, Aus.

We had one that affected eyelid opening and they prescribed propanalol with really good effect within a few months it was very small - we were referred to opthamology as we stressed we were worried about vision and they then asked paediatric dermatology to prescribe.

My 5.5 month old son has one above his lip. It appeared 2 weeks after birth and kept getting redder and more pronounced. We went to the GP in November and were referred to paediatric dermatology but still waiting to hear back from them. I’m not sure if it’s something that can be treated privately if needed? So hard being fobbed off by doctors. Stick to your guns. Your daughter is an absolute cutie btw šŸ’ž

Hi Rhiannon. Try and get a referral - either GOSH in London, or Alder Hey I think is further north?

I get that they go away on their own, which everyone will insist, but they can also leave scarring. My daughter’s is very small but also in her face and we were worried about it growing and later issues with scarring and bullying.

We paid for a private appointment at GOSH but they got us to push the gp for a referral as it had started to ulcerate (go scabby). She takes topical Timolol and has been on it three months now, starting to see a difference.

Ask your gp for the referral because it’s on her eye. GOSH are the experts on this and you want a children’s specialist as this isn’t an adult issue. I’d guess they would probably suggest propranolol

Also there are a few support groups on Facebook that might be helpful!
