How to do the milk ladder?

I am struggling to understand the steps. We were discharged from our dietitian at 6 months and told to do the milk ladder at 1 year, so I have no professional overseeing us to ask wtf I’m doing.

My daughter is now 1 year old and I don’t understand what I’m doing. How do I move through the steps of the milk ladder ?

Does my daughter eat the thing on that step and then have a couple days off? Or does she eat the thing on that step multiple days in a row? do I start with a small piece of the item? Or does she eat the full amount ?

How many times does she need to eat the full amount before moving up?

What do I do if she has a reaction to a step?

Do you have a picture of the milk ladder you was given? X

If you’re on Facebook I’d definitely recommend joining a CMPA group, there’s a pretty big one, they’re all super helpful in there!
So step 1 is usually a malted milk biscuit, you want to start off slow, and keep track of it, so day 1, basically a crumb of the biscuit, then the next day, slightly more, and keep doing that until you’ve built up to 1 whole biscuit. Then you’d want to keep giving her the biscuits while moving onto step 2, and do the same for that next item. If she reacts, you stop straightaway and have a break for 2/3 months and the try again, if you’ve already done step 1 and she’s fine but then reacts on step 2, you’d still give her the biscuits, and just pause step 2. We reacted on a malted milk after a few days, I think we went a bit too heavy too fast, so really slowed it down when we tried again!
You’ll also want to decide if you’re doing the 6 or 12 step ladder too, assuming they haven’t advised you for either one.

It will depend on things such as how severe your little one's allergy is.

We are on a reduced version of the 12 step ladder where we have to start with 1/16th of a malted milk instead of 1 malted milk, and we have to stay on each sub step for much longer than the standard 3 days.

I'd ask to be referred back to the Dietitian and say you need support to navigate the ladder.
