My BMI is around 37, UK size 18 and I’m carrying a lot of extra weight for my small height. I had a baby in 2024 but have gained since then & now I’m expecting again. I need some positive stories that everything can be ok with high BMI pregnancies 😭 it’s robbing me of all the joy as I’m so worried about risks. I feel so heavy as it is.

Honestly, everything will be fine! They will mention at appointments so be ready for that. It may cause high blood pressure and you may have to take medication. But my BMI is higher and I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy. Unfortunately, my induction failed so I ended up having a c-section but my little girl was born fit and healthy with no issues. Feel free to message me if you want to ask anything specific x

Haven’t given birth yet but I’m a UK size 24, 47 BMI and everyone’s been great with me. Haven’t needed a maternity support belt yet but I’ve got one ready for the third trimester. The only thing I think I’m getting earlier than most women is swollen ankles if I do too much other than that my weight hasn’t kept me back. Minimal ligament and back pain x

My daughter is 1 now and I was high risk due to my BMI, similar to yours if not higher! I had 0 weight related complications in pregnancy. I did end up having an elective C-section because I had a big baby but this wasn’t to do with my weight, didn’t have gestational diabetes or anything. I carried her until 40 weeks before having a section because she didn’t want to come naturally!xx

Two high bmis births vaginal delivery with no problems. Had aspirin prescribed both times.
I suffered with PGP but that’s due to other disorders rather than weight.

I was around the 20st mark when I fell pregnant with my daughter I did get preeclampsia at 37+5 so they induced me but I also had low Papp-A which they said was the most likely cause. No GD or anything else xx

My bmi was about 43 when I had my son and honestly everything was absolutely fine, pregnancy was a breeze and the birth was a fine too! (Apart from my son being back to back🤭) Of course my bmi was mentioned during appointments but never badly to be honest, just extra scans and what not but was never once made to feel bad for it! 🥰

I have a high BMI, 43 UK size 20. I am 36 weeks pregnant and had a really lovely smooth pregnancy - not had any 'bad' symptoms.
Factors that may have contributed to this could be that I might be larger but I do generally have a very good, and nutritional diet. I've not had any cravings and they say cravings can sometimes indicate a lack of something. So if you're really worried maybe ensuring you're eating well and getting all your essential nutrients. I've gone to every test they've sent me for and everything has come back as perfectly normal.
In my experience they will probably mention it and tell you why you "have" to do certain things. I've found comfort in knowledge; how biased some of the evidence is and Dr Sara Wickham has 2 great books: plus size pregnancy and in your own time.
For longer days out I've been using the momcozy belly band later in my pregnancy and I can feel the difference in terms of support. Dungarees have also been great, ones like Lucy & yak with very adjustable straps.

I was referred when pregnant to talk about my diet and they recommended the gi diet. Blood sugars fine which I was worried about as mum had GD. I had the easiest pregnancy and my labour was very quick and without pain relief and I bounced back quickly. Oddly I didn’t gain any weight but wasn’t really watching it either although the bigger I got the less I could eat.

Ran out of characters! Wanted to end with ultimately we are all different and unfortunately medically they have to start somewhere so as I've felt so fine the research has enabled me to push back on being treated like 'a statistic'.

My BMI is much higher than yours. I think it was around 48. I’ve lost weight since but I was a size 24.
2 smooth pregnancies and 2 vaginal births. My first pregnancy my BMI was mentioned a lot but my second it was kind of not a huge deal. Maybe because I’d already had one healthy pregnancy. I also agree with ! You are human and not just a statistic and I pushed back on a lot of things with my second pregnancy. I was more confident in my pregnant body and wasn’t going to be coerced into things because of my BMI

You’ll be fine, my bmi was 40 for both my pregnancies and they were perfectly healthy. I had HG nothing to do with weight, no GD, and just grew big babies cause myself and my partner are tall 🥰 2 planned c-sections cause I opted for them x

My BMI was 42 before pregnancy. UK 20/22. I had a planned c-section with baby boy on Feb 18th x

My bmi was 48 for my first pregnancy and 52 for my second. I was tested for diabetes in both pregnancies and both tests were clear. I did develop high BP in the later stages but they told me it was nothing to do with my weight and to do with my placenta. I was induced for both births due to the high BP and I was able to deliver both with no further interventions. My weight was only ever mentioned in my booking appointment as thats when they told me id need extra growth scans which I was happy with xx

Just had my second baby this week with probably a slightly higher bmi and have had 2 healthy pregnancies and deliveries.
THANK YOU so much everyone who has commented. I can’t even describe how much better you’ve all made me feel about this. Thank you
