I work in pediatrics. From what I’ve seen, the skin test is usually a little more in-depth because they can test a lot of different allergens at once and see right away if the skin reacts. The blood test looks for allergy antibodies in the blood and checks for certain common allergens that way(enviromental/food allergies)Some Doctors sometimes use the blood test if the skin test can’t be done, like if the child is on antihistamines or has bad eczema. Both tests can still be helpful depending on the situation.

I was allergy tested as a child the one with all the little pricks along your back/arms/legs…I’m still traumatized don’t do that one.

My three year old had a skin prick test on her back, but was only tested for two different allergens so it was pretty simple and not traumatic at all. She was a little stressed in the moment, but I distracted her with my phone (a rare treat) so she was okay. I think she's probably forgotten about it by now! She is just allergic to eggs, and we were confirming that based on a previous reaction she had.
