Does anyone else have a VERY active 3 year old that doesn’t sit still, has a hard time following instructions because they like to feel in charge or have their kid in some kind of extracurricular where they don’t follow instructions part of the time? I’ve had a couple of parents mention it’s hard with ADHD kids and I’ve never thought that about my daughter. She’s a 3 year old that has high energy and gets super excited when she does sports because she gets to run around. Other parents only see this behavior where at home my daughter has no problem sitting down and looking at books she likes, or coloring, etc. I try not to take offense but I don’t consider my daughter ADHD and don’t appreciate the unsolicited feedback? Is anyone else in this boat? If so, how are you handling it?

I’ve had a situation where I’ve asked a football coach if my son can play football and since he’s autistic the coach replied with the answer of I wouldn’t think that’s a good idea that offended me so much but I brushed it off and let god handle it

Honestly, people that see high energy children always associate it with “ADHD”. Children that are “high energy” in situations that are exciting for them at a young ages, and may cause them to “not hear all directions/expectations” while in the situation makes it hard to process at that age. That is normal. People forget children’s brains are still “coming online”. They’re still learning how to “People Properly.”Especially when you say she is able to sit and look at books and color for “durations”of time at home in a familiar environment. Our society is so inundated with mental health information that everyone feels like they “see” the whole pile of sand when they only see one grain.
