My 1yo eats with utensils perfectly fine, my 3yo is capable of doing it too but doesn't like to and prefers to use her hands. I don't know how to correct this at home without it sounding lowkey like nonsense. We have finger foods, other cultures eat "messy" foods with their hands, we teach to eat until your tummy feels comfortable so idk how to explain that even tho eating with her hands is the most comfortable that she isn't supposed to?? Because even as an adult I don't see a problem with it unless it'd be disrespectful to the chef/host š Do I just say we need to practice at home just in case a future chef/host would be offended by it? š

But for telling her Iād say itās more so just for manners š¤·āāļø

We just simply tell our 4 yo (and when he was 3) to use his fork or spoon. We donāt complicate it. Unless itās a figure food, we will correct him if heās not using a utensil.

I was told to not push my kids to eat with utensils but my situation is different from yours. I probably wouldn't either way. They being said I eat with my hands a lot

I allow my almost 2 year old to eat with her fingers but i offer silverware and set it where she can use it. Most of the time she chooses to eat with her fingers but other times she doesnāt want to get food on her hands. Around the time shes 4 years old i hope to have her fully used to silverware, but shes uses napkins and things like that so i dont recon itll be too hard

My two year old eats with utensils and hands, as long as she is eating I donāt care how it gets into her mouth lol
