Hi all,
Second time mumma here, a bit worried about how much baby is sleeping! She’s 6 days old and vastly different from my first who had a tongue tie and struggled feeding so was awake and alert a lot.
This little one is always asleep, however feeds exceptionally well (formula and breast). Anyone else’s little ones this sleepy and is it normal for this age?
Also she’s so lazy on the boobs but when a bottle comes out she guzzles. Any tips? X

Is she waking for feeds? At least 8 in 24hrs Having plenty 4-6 of wet and dirty nappies? How's her colour? Could she be jaundiced? Bottles are much more passive and need minimal work to get the milk out whereas breastfeeding is more effort, does she have a good latch etc?

My baby was sleepy like this but had tounge tie. He was feeding well but it took a lot out of him when he was feeding. Woke up a bit but still loves his sleep and often needs a nappy change. He’s 3 months now and is fine. Might be worth getting her checked for tongue tie even though she seems to be feeding fine x

To answer both:
She’s got a good latch, usually waited for feeds but could go four hours if needed (I don’t let her). She’s alert and awake for like 20 mins and then goes back to sleep
For 3 hours!!! Her colour is fine and midwife saw her yesterday and said no jaundice, lots of wet and dirty nappies. I think she’s okay, but I just get a bit worried. No temperature or anything either

I’ve heard babies get really tired from all the birth events (idk how tired) different for each but they may have a very sleepy 1st 2 weeks.
But some don’t.
Honestly your baby seems really well taken care of I wouldn’t stress if there’s nothing negative.
