Arm bands vs swim vests

Hi all! Just wondering everyone’s opinion what would be better for my one year old . He does swimming lessons and wants me to let go of him but obviously he doesn’t stay up. I want to get him something so he can go where he wants in the pool without having to wait for me to figure it out, obviously I’ll still be with him. He’s dinky and the float material arm bands the teacher had he threw at me? What’s more likely to keep him afloat? Tia
