Hey mummas, i was wondering if you had expected this or anything similar, some advice would be great!
My nearly 4 year old has gotten into this habit (for months now) at night only when hes fully asleep he grinds his teeth so much, i hear him tossing and turning from my room and just that grinding, it honestly makes my whole body shiver, its an awful noise.
He doesn't seem affected by it but im considering consulting a dentist i just wanted to know if it was normal?
It is every night many, many times
Im not sure if it makes a difference but he stopped using a dummy at 6 months and has a chipped (front) tooth which the dentist has told me could get painful as it dies but its very normal for kids.

Please talk to a dentist, I grind my teeth in my sleep and had some serious cracks and cavities from it. I had a lot of pain and insecurity due to this. Since I’ve had a lot of work done as an adult but I can only imagine how it would feel to a child. They make mouth guards as well!

So it can be a sign of sleep apnea or issues with androids or tonsils. Especially if they snore as well or there is pauses in breathing.
I would let their pediatrician know before and then see a dentist.

I grind my teeth & always have. Never caused an issue. I just hear from other ppl that I do it. Apparently my dad did. I’ve heard stress can cause it but 🤷🏼♀️. My daughter has a few times. No issues with her teeth.

My brother actually did this as a toddler/nursery age, he ground his teeth down so much he had to had the front 2 removed at about age 4/5 (not to scare you!!) he was absolutely fine, took him a little longer to eat his food but he wasn’t bothered. At that age they wouldn’t give him a mouth guard like his dad had. His adult teeth came through a couple of years later maybe age 7 or 8 and he never did it again. His dentist said if he was still doing it when his adult teeth came through they could look at a mouth guard but generally wasn’t recommended under the age of 6 or 7 and they hoped he would grow out of it which he did.

My son grinds his teeth and has ever since his early toddler years. His dentist hasn’t been concerned because they are baby teeth but once his permanent teeth come in, if he’s still grinding he’ll need a mouth guard for night time
