Hey everyone, I hate going to Google because it just makes you feel very uncomfortable afterwards. My 18 month old has recently in the past week started to hit himself on the head with his hands and sometime in our play room foam floor he will hit his head against the ground. I googled (i know your not supposed to) and it said that it can be a sign of frustration of not being able to communicate. When he would hit himself i would obviously react and grab his hands and say no sternly. I dont know if my reaction has made it worse because it has become more frequent. He sometimes will go to hit me and once has went to go bite me. Can someone give me some advice.

My son did / does this sometimes and also did / does hit his head against his high chair when he’s not happy with the food in front of him.. we ignore it. Or redirect. At this age it is most likely exactly what you think — frustration and not being able to communicate. We typically redirect and once he has calmed down or stopped the behavior then we ask him (typically we know what he wants) so once he Confirms that he does indeed want what we think, we give it to him.
