My baby will be 13 months when I go ham to work. I had initially found a nursery for her. But then I recently found out about childminder now I am torn. I like how childminders pay more attention but my baby seems very social so not sure if I’m restricting her? The childminder I’m considering has 5 kids different ages from 13 months to 3 years. But it’s cheaper and closer to home. What are some pros and cons?

I did so much research on this and I truly don’t think there’s a right or wrong! We decided to go with a nursery setting in the end for the following reasons
- structured hours and days
- group setting in class with other kids her age rather than small group of varied ages
- huge variety of activities; crafting, music classes, educational days around culture around the world (Diwali, Chinese new year etc) I love this about nursery!!!!
Some pros and cons for childminders
PROS
- home from home setting, likely more individualised care
- more opportunities for trips out (a lot of childminders go to playgroups, soft play, parks etc) but I also considered this to be a con because I don’t fully trust anyone to take my child out on their own especially with other kids to watch
CONS
- childminders can really vary. You can either get an amazing childminder, or not so much and you’ll never really know what’s going on, who is coming to the house, is car seat safety being 100% maintained

Oh and final big thing to consider; a childminder can take holiday any time in the year, plus if they become sick you have no childcare for that day or week
