Can I take Humulin instead of Metformin?

So, long story long. My metformin prescription is currently being held hostage by my GP surgery because the incompetent twats haven't got 2 braincells to run together combined between the lot of them. About a month ago I was put on Humulin (R I think?) in addition to the metformin but my sugars were dropping too much even though I still felt fine - can I just use the humulin again until my GP surgery decides they can be bothered to lift a finger and do their jobs instead of me chasing consultants/nursing teams all the time? Right now I'm in the headspace of f*ck them all and I won't take a single medication anymore for the next 10 weeks or again, will I be ok to substitute in the Humulin for the next 5 days until my next appointment with the consultant?

Is it possible for you to call the Diabetes team from your hospital? Earlier for a similar type of situation they helped me out by confirming the next steps.
