Going from council to private rent
Hiya i need some advice on private rent, we're currently in a small 2 bed council flat with 3. Children and me and my hubby, its very crowding and im running out of room for everything. My children are crammed in a bedroom with a triple bunk bed, we did sacrifice our living room but my 2 older boys preferred to be in the same room so we swapped them back again. My youngest is in our room. Im honestly thinking about going over to private rent for a 3 bed home, but 1 my credit isn't the best unfortunately so im worried we will be let down, 2 I receive housing benefit for a 2 bed property. Im assuming when the little one turn 1 year old ill be entitled to 3 bed housing benefit but im unsure. I know that housing benefit will only cover some rent and I know we will have to find the remaining but it shouldn't be a problem my hubby works full time. For anyone who has done this how was the transition was it really hard? Were you able to afford it from going from council to private? I know our bills will go up massively and im just worried to take that step, i dont want to leave us in a bad situation because once you give up council that's it, and its really worrying but I feel bad for my children, eventually they will want there own room and they will want a garden and a nicer environment to be in, we're currently on a council estate and its getting worse with crime 😢 I dont what my children to feel unsafe in an environment that is supposed to be home/ safe zone.

In the same boat here bit with 2 little ones, youngest is only 7 weeks but im thinking ahead to when they are supposed to share what is a box room, doesnt help that some councils consider the living room to also be a bedroom. The local housing rate in my area is a third of what private rent actually is so we would loose quite abit of money going private, plus there are some many restrictions on private rented that makes me doubt whether its the right choice for us. Do you have a local exchange to keep an eye out for swaps?
