Since April is Cesarean Section Awareness Month, I feel like I just need to get this off of my chest.
I had an emergency c-section 5 months ago and I'm still in pain. My stitches look dry and healing okay from the outside but internally I feel like something is ripping. I wouldn't say it's painful but it sure feels uncomfortable especially when I'm moving or walking or getting up from bed or the couch.
I'm proud of other mums who had a good recovery. I admire your strength. Some would even say they feel normal after 6-8 weeks. I wonder why I don't. Is it because as a SAHM I don't really get a rest? Because I have to show up 24/7 even if I could barely stand from backpain or my stitches sting.
I know comparison is the thief of joy but I just can't help feeling sorry for myself for going through this especially during this time that I'm going through ppd and health anxiety. What if my stitches are actually ripping internally? But I just had my gp appointment and my stitches look okay and to just take paracetamol for the pain, that as long as I don't have any fever or bleeding I'm okay. I want to have an ultrasound scan just for my peace of mind but they don't simply give you that, do they? Anyone else felt the same but nothing's concerning? It's only that we have a slow recovery. I hope this is the case.

An emergency c section is totally different to an elective. I had an elective 2nd time and my healing was much quicker despite being at home with my newborn and toddler. However, internally people are still healing for over 12 months regardless of how they feel! It will also depend on so many different things as well as what your c section was for. You are also entitled to a second opinion if you’re not happy with what your GP said. You’re right they don’t give out ultrasounds because they aren’t cheap, is it something you could pay private for? You could also try scar massage? If you have no signs of Infection then it’s likely just your body healing but always get a 2nd opinion x

I also had an emergency c-section with my daughter and had discomfort at the incision site until my daughter was around 9 months old. It was very similar to what you're describing, not necessarily painful but definitely didn't feel good, the outside looked perfectly healed but most of the discomfort felt like it was inside on the uterine incision. Emergency c-sections usually end up with more discomfort and longer healing processes because the doctors are rushing to get the baby out and are a lot less meticulous about how they cut the incision. As long as you aren't still bleeding and you don't have a fever I wouldn't worry about it BUT if it makes you feel better, there's nothing wrong with asking your OB if they can request an ultrasound to check on your uterine scar.
