Hello! I hired a doula at 5 weeks and I’m currently 31 weeks. I have not really connected with her and I have connected much more with my OBGYN.
I also recently found out she’s a Trump supporter which makes me concerned about her beliefs about women’s right to choose. This seems to be in direct conflict with what I believed Doula’s did (empowered women to be in control of their labors).
Has anyone had concerns about their doula in their third trimester and decided to go without. I have a super supportive husband who is a doctor at the hospital I’m delivering at. I also am hoping that my sister who lives abroad can make the delivery. I feel like with the two of them, I won’t need to doula. I just feel like after all this time with her, it’s strange we are still not comfortable with each other.
I’d love to hear folks thoughts. This is not an invitation to argue about politics. If you are a Trump supporter just keep it moving.

I would definitely change doula... I had a doula and she was a pure love angel.

Sounds like keeping that doula would cause more stress/harm than good!

In my opinion as a midwife student and certified doula, I completely understand where you’re coming from!! I’m also a Trump supporter myself, but I don’t bring politics into my work space at all. To me, being a doula is about serving you, supporting you, and listening to your needs without judgement or personal bias. I completely understand your concerns, and I think it’s important that you feel fully comfortable and safe with the person you choose for your birth experience. Trusting your gut really matters in this situation, if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to honor that and choose someone you feel fully aligned with!!
