Nursery essentials

My LG is due to start nursery in 3 weeks and was wondering what essentials I will need. She hasn’t had her settling in yet due to it being closed for half term.
What do you mamas pack in the nursery bag.
She take a dummy for sleep and I know I’ll need to pack 2 due to her needed the comfort in the beginning.

Spare clothes, a comforter if she has one, a cup if they don’t provide one or you prefer a certain type, hat/ gloves for outside would also provide wellies and an all in one which you could leave there, then a hat and sun cream when the weather is nicer x

Ask them what they provide as some nurseries provide quite a bit. As someone who works in a nursery I always tell parents in the baby room to pack at least 3 spare changes of clothes (3 vest, 3 tops, 3 pairs of bottoms, 3 pairs of socks), a comforter, at least 2 dummies if baby uses one, a tub of unopened formula that we can keep at nursery (given that baby uses formula), labelled foods as in our setting babies under 1 need to provide their own food as well as a coat which she tell parents they can leave at the setting and also a big packet of nappies.

Our setting provides hats, suncream (unless baby needs a different one), puddle suits, wipes and nappy creams (again unless different one is needed), cows milk for snack time, cups, wellies and then food from 12 months old.

Definitely check with your setting what is and isn’t provided x

Check with the nursery what’s able to be left as some don’t have much space

I send mine (7 months today) in each day with a bag: full rain suit, 2 changes of clothes, a dummy, a teether, sometimes a hat (weather dependent)

What’s left there on the nurseries request: her bottles, formula, nappies/wipes, a sip water cup, a comforter, calpol & benylin

My May baby decided to come early 👶🏻

When they say your second one is usually faster they seriously weren’t lying (in my case) my waters broke spontaneously yesterday at 6:45am and my sweet sugar cube made his dramatic entrance later that day at 16:15pm at 36+5 & I’m so in love 🥰

Good luck to the rest of the mummies, you’re nearly there 🩷

No bump

I am 20 weeks tomorrow and I only have a real small bump! I know some people will be like 'think yourself lucky'. But I just want to look pregnant, I have wished for this for so long!
Still not feeling any movement i dont think just wish I felt pregnant and looked it.

When did you know your about to give birth?

So this is my 2nd pregnancy.
First one, my water broke before contractions hit at 37w3d (which i hear only happens to 10% of pregnancies).
This go around, the entire pregnancy has been different from the first. As of right now, at 35w4d, I have no idea if what's going on down there is mucus plug break or just discharge. Definitely not a water break. Also for 2 days in a row when I wipe my butt there is wet poo like diarrhea though I havent shat recently so idk what up with that. 🤔
When did yall know you were about to give birth? The first time i just lucked out and my water broke and we went to the hospital right then. 🤷‍♀️

Contractions?

This may sound stupid for the last 2ish hours. I have been tightenings roughly every 15 minute, lasting between 30 to 45 seconds. Is this the start of actual labour or just more braxton hicks.

If you wanted an unmedicated vaginal birth, did you have one?

In my opinion there is such a pressure to have an unmedicated vaginal birth and all social media and midwives are telling you ”your body was made for this” ”try Hypnobirthing” ”just breathe baby out and it’ll be fine” when in reality birth is just not like that. I have so many friends who wanted this ideal pain free dream vaginal birth but all ended up with emergency c sections and felt like they failed/were upset when it went the way it did.

I’ve had two unmedicated vaginal births. First one was extremely traumatic and made me want an elective c section the second time but classic nhs gave me a date that was late and my baby arrived before then so ended up having another unmedicated vaginal birth. Despite the second birth being a textbook ”good” birth I still found it unbelievably painful and in no way empowering and all these other words flying around social media and what my doula used.

Is there too much pressure on women to have this magical unmedicated vaginal birth? And therefore so many mums feel upset when it doesn’t happen? Let’s not forget that c sections are now the most common births in the UK.

This is basically a rant and I’m just interested to hear people’s opinions. No right or wrong all women are amazing however they birthed their babies!
