Weaning help

After going back and forward with the GP since my almost 5 month old was born they’ve finally suggested my little girl could have CMPA.

Symptoms since birth included but not all;
-colic/reflux diagnosis due to constant crying and unsettled behaviour since birth
-weeping cradle cap that won’t clear
-going at least 10 days without pooing but could be upto 14 days (told on numerous occasions that this is “normal” because she’s EBF) and then having explosive diarrhoea and then the cycle starting again again since birth
-constantly grabbing at her skin at any opportunity, she’s constantly covered in scratches on her head legs and body
-developing eczema type rashes on legs, arms and trunk in the last month which led to the CMPA suggestion!

I have now cut out dairy for a month and whilst there has been a vast improvement in the constipation there’s been no change in the rashes and discomfort she seems to be having with her skin. The GP suggested that I continue with a DF diet due to the positive impact on her digestion whilst breastfeeding which is fine and has left it at that with no further follow up or appointments planned unless we want to go onto prescription formula.

However, I’m now at a bit of a loss when it comes to weaning as she approaches 5 months! Do I keep her DF or introduce it as usual? I’ve seen a lot of mention of the milk ladder is this something I’d have to do! Any support or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks if you’ve got this far!!

When weaning keep her DF. The GP should’ve referred you to a dietitian as the milk ladder is done from 12 months old and before that you do what is a called the milk challenge where if you were formula feeding you would swap out an ounce a day of the prescribed formula with regular formula but giving that you’re breastfeeding am not entirely sure how that would work.

But then again both of these things are usually, if not always done with the dietitian as the milk ladder there’s 2 types the 12 step one and 6 step one depending on the severity of the allergy which the dietitian gives you to do. So definitely go back to the GP and ask for a referral.

When you start weaning just start with veggies and then introduce fruit if you’re doing purées. You can use milks like soya milk (if baby can tolerate it) in cooking. As for allergens it’s best to try 1 allergen over 3 days in one week and then take a break inbetween of trying allergens as there can be delayed reactions sometimes x

The above comment is really helpful.
I'd also suggest following the cmpa Facebook group I've learnt so much from all of the mums there.
Also allergy UK have lots of good advice.
Best of luck, it's definitely not an easy journey and I'm about to start the weaning process too xx
