Do you watch tv with a newborn in the room?

I have a 8 week old & I watch tv with him in the room and he will sometimes look at it although I do think it’s more the lights around the tv. Would you consider this screen time?

I saw a video earlier saying a mother was panicking that her newborn saw the tv for a few seconds & now think the baby is going to have issues??

For the first 7 months of my babies life All naps where contact naps, so yea I absolutely did have the tv on when she was in the room, done a lot of binge watching in that time too.

The tv has always been on in the background in our house too. We dont do anyother screens though, she absolutely will not be getting a tablet anytime soon.

In the room yes but not where they can see it

I try not to. When my newborn was asleep my husband and I would watch shows on a laptop. We don’t own a tv

Yes I watch tv in the background as he is still contact napping throughout the day. But I don’t think a baby looking at the tv for a few seconds would cause any problems, I’m sure we were all exposed to tvs sooner haha x

It's fine, honestly some parents are just holier than thou!

I used to point my baby’s bouncer away from the TV or if she was on me I wouldn’t stress too much while she was that small x

I was pretty much bedridden so watched a lot of tv during pregnancy and 5 months after having my LO. Shes 14 months now and Every time we’re in the house, the tv is on. She enjoys the wiggles and barney songs and bluey but does not sit anymore than 10 minutes watching them, its more like backround noise as she plays and reads - She would still prefer playing in her play area and reading books, she has a small books case and is almost constantly’Reading’. She brings me books to read and has learnt to say some animals, animal noises, shapes, toy names, food names and Ta for please and thankyou.

She also gets so excited when she knows we’re going on car rides or out so Tv does not effect little ones in a negative way, its mostly there just for background noise a lot of the time

The whole screen time obsession is just too much. Chill out, play with your babies/kids, take them outside, read to them, eat with them and let them watch some bloody tv as well and I promise you they’ll be perfectly well rounded human beings

My 2yo is zero screen time, but before she was able to turn by herself I watched tv with her in the room, but facing the other way. For a few seconds nothing is going to happen, the issue is not seeing a screen, the issue is watching it.

I had tv one until she started looking up for the tv 😂 then I stopped watching x

Just because you have a baby doesn’t mean don’t watch the tv
If u don’t want them staring at all, u might as well just sell the tv so they don’t stare🤷🏿‍♀️

Yes I watch the tv but I don’t consider it screen time unless he’s watching the screen. But newborns are easy to redirect where they’re looking.

I think you’re okay. I would not consider it screen time. In my books screen time is time set aside for your child to watch something intentionally.

I’m not going to sit here and comment anything helpful because the “screen time” conversation is the most annoying shit ever it’s about what you do outside of screen time and if you allow the screen to raise them it’s also about what they watch my now 4yo watches her tablet whenever she want but yet has great social skills and is intelligently advanced for her age while also being multilingual

Avatar

Yes I do but baby normally is facing me or the ceiling . I like the background noise of tv but I also have a toddler that watches tv

I honestly don’t think it’s that deep and I find it quite sad that as mums, we can’t even enjoy having the tv on without people referring to “screen time” and “issues”. This is most definitely not screen time, and even if it was, it’s not going to cause any problems. Just enjoy your TV show and take your moments to relax when you can. You’re doing a great job Xx

I would always breastfeed while watching tv with my husband when my bay was little. Then he grew and instead of falling asleep he woukd start turning to try to watch and not feed properly, so i stoped
