My due date is in about a month, and I tried to schedule a first visit with a pediatrician for after my baby boy arrives - but they said it’s too early to book an appointment.
My husband and I are also planning a small naming ceremony with close friends and family about 2 weeks after birth.
I’d love to hear from other moms on this.
What does the vaccination schedule look like for newborns in those first few weeks/months? Would really appreciate any experiences or advice 🤍
When did you feel it was actually safe to have visitors or host a small gathering?

for the appointments you wont be able to make an appt until the day the baby is born at least where im at. you will have vaccinations immediately following birth and at 2,4, and 6 months your initial pediatrician appointment should be scheduled for 1-3 days to the first week pp (unless you are in the hospital with baby longer but hospitals will have a pediatrician while you are there. for hosting a gathering i think its more when you are feeling physically good enough to do so and feel comfortable with the obvious guests washing hands, no smoke clothes, no cough etc

Same here! Appointment can’t be made until after baby is born

Once baby is born, you can book! We booked while in the hospital.
We didnt do vaccines immediately after birth. I wasn't comfortable with that. I believe they offer vitamin K and hepatitis b shot after birth. The first official set (aside from those) will he 2 months. You can turn them down if you'd like. You can also do delayed vaccines as an option. This depends on your baby going to daycare though! Most daycares require vaccines to be up to date. There is a "new" vaccine schedule where some aren't mandatory anymore.
I personally wanted my baby to have first set of vaccines before we had visitors. I was concerned for whooping cough and didnt really trust people to be honest with me. A small tickle in someone's throat can turn into something more for a newborn. But my baby also was sick at 7 weeks for the first time (which was beyond stressful), but breastfeeding kept her strong!

Once baby is 2 months old. If they get sick and have fever before they’re 2 months you have to go to ER with them and get a spinal tap. That’s the procedure they have for all small babies and it’s super stressful when we had to do it. If you have to have a big gathering I would also make sure it’s outside in fresh air and no one who is sick can come
