Returning to work

How have people coped going back to work after Mat leave?

I’m due to return beginning of July after stretching out my accrued annual leave for as long as possible! My little boy turns one in June.

I’ve done a couple of KIT days and feel absolutely shattered and sore after. My anxiety is through the roof and I feel like I’m grieving the end of the year already.

I’ve also vocalised my intention to carry on breastfeeding/pumping after the feeding journey we had. It’s so important to me to keep that going for a little while longer and maintain the milk supply I worked so hard for. I was really shocked that there is no provision for breastfeeding staff in a hospital (I’m NHS)??? Was initially told to use staff room! Luckily there is a room for me that has been sorted.

Just wondering what other’s experiences are returning to work and also if anyone had to advocate for themselves continuing to breastfeed/express

I returned full time this week. I’m taking my annual leave for last year and this sporadically through the rest of the year. I’m able to work one day from home.
As for pumping, my employer arranged for the staff room (hardly anyone ever uses) to be my sole use when the door is closed. I’ve had one scenario when someone barged in, even with the door closed, with a sign and I asked them not to enter.

I was anxious at the start of the year. I feel much better now that I have one day at home per week. Maybe put in a flexible working request to reduce your hours?

This doesn't surprise me, I find the nhs shocking to work for. Which is an irony isn't it when it's meant to care for people lol
