My step daughter only did sign language till she was 2 then out of nowhere started talking up a storm.

I was worried too but some kids choose not to talk. I would try baby sign language with him that's what we did with her so she could communicate with us a little better. She 5 now and doesn't stop talking but honestly it wouldn't hurt to talk to his doctor to give some peace of mind

I have 16 month old twins and they have opposite speech development one says like 7 words the other 3 words. Lots of repeating and looking at the same books each day and singing songs is how they catch on. I read to always name the item you give the example “food” “water” when you go outside get very animated and use the same name for something everytime I also tell them what clothes I’m putting on their body or that it’s diaper time would you like to hold the diaper while I take your pants off. Every moment can be used to teach them words I hope some of that helps

Pediatric SLP here! Big range of development at this age for sure, but I always recommend parents who have any concerns to get an evaluation! Some support early on can be really helpful :)
