Hi there! I have a 2 year old son and am about 6 months pregnant with our 2nd child. We also have 3 dogs and 1 cat. All of our animals are 11+ years old and we love them dearly. That being said, they are driving me crazy. When I was pregnant with my first child my younger sister lived with us and took on changing her litter box for me. Such a blessing! Since then we have moved and no longer live near any family and still dont know anybody in town. So the litter box duties have temporarily been given to my husband who has never had a cat until we got together about 9 years ago. Unfortunately he is not very good at taking the initiative of helping with litter box cleanings. Because the litter box is almost always disgusting our cat has taken to peeing on piles of laundry amd pooping all over the basement floor. I purchased liners and asked if he could just replace the litter every few days but the situation is becoming very frustrating for me. Ive gotten to the point where I have purchased gloves and a face mask and am considering cleaning up the feces myself but am scared I might be putting my baby at unnecessary risk. Ive also looked into self cleaning litter boxes and they either cost a fortune or have terrible reviews. Im also afraid that I will drop a bunch of cash on a self cleaning box and then that wont be maintained either and will be a waste of money. Ive even come close to trying to rehome my cat which absolutely breaks my heart. Ive had her since I was 18 and am now 34. I only have about 3 1/2 months left until baby comes but am sick of going down to the basement to do laundry and finding pee stains and piles of poop everywhere. The poor cat is kept in the basement because I really cant have her using my entire house as a toilet. Im sick of nagging my husband and causing constant fights over his lack of help. Its a little late to try to train him so Im hoping someone might have some good advice for my situation. We are struggling financially since our move so hiring someone to do the cleaning has crossed my mind but im not sure if we have the budget for it to be done as often as needed. Does anyone know of an inexpensive self cleaning box that actually works? Or should I just gear up and clean it myself?? Help!!!
