My 12 month old plays with toys but for example if it was a stacking toy she would just eat it and smash it rather than try and do it and can’t - anyone else?

Yep. This was normal for my 3yo and now my 12mo. My daughter didnt start playing with toys more until around 18 mo i think. My son is 12mo and just loved banging and knocking things over.
Everything thing I stack or build my little boy comes along and pulls down, he has no interest in trying to build things or make a tower
