Just a rant…

I need to get this off my chest.

My baby is nearly 6 months old. I am due to leave my baby for a day in May and my partner will be looking after baby.

Baby is EBF and has a bottle of expressed milk at night and will take the bottle with no issues so I know they will be fine.

However my partner is addicted to his phone, for example I was on the floor playing with baby and baby is smiling, laughing etc and my partner is just sat there watching Tik Tok’s, this is an every day thing. It’s almost like because I’m there it’s fine because I’ll play with baby. I see baby looking at my partner who is just staring at his phone and it makes me sad. My baby will make cute, happy noises and my partner will make them back but without breaking eye contact with his phone.

I fully get he’s been at work all day so come and wind down and disassociate a bit but for the day I have to leave for the day I worry baby isn’t going to be too interacted with and just left to watch TV or play on his own whilst my partner watches TV or plays on his phone. It’s making me worried leaving him as I know in every other aspect baby will be well cared for but it makes me sad to think he will rarely be played with.

I left the other day for an hour and baby was ‘hard work’ but as soon as I came home, baby was happy.

Am I just massively overthinking it and being unreasonable for feeling this way?

Thank you if you’ve made it this far

Not over thinking at all. I was in the sane boat till I word vomitted to my bf to sort his shit out or leave. I recommend speaking your truth.

Could you maybe start by framing it as something you both can do, ie. ‘Let’s set ourselves a challenge of both putting our phones away in a drawer for 2 hours as we need a break from them’ and see how that goes. And in that time encourage some quality interaction with your little one- he might see that he is missing out.

I wouldn't worry anyway . Baby will soon let him know that needs to be played with an attention. I don't no a baby who would be happy sitting there for a good while without interaction. Let him get on with it and he will have a shock in a good way . My partner is a brilliant father to my two kids but he's definitely not the one on the floor playing and teaching them stuff . But when I'm not there he has no choice and he gets on with it xx
