Sweeps and inductions

I told myself that I wouldnt bother having a sweep this time round but I really really really want to avoid induction. Im only 38+4 so still have time... I just cant see myself going into spontaneous labour atm 😟 anyone have any thoughts that could help?

I dont want to hear about positive induction stories as this just isnt a route im willing to go down

I had a sweep last Thursday at 38+1 still very much pregnant, got another this morning, I am also hoping to avoid induction but will be getting induced 39+6 if he’s not here

I’m with you, really not keen to have other induction methods. I will happily go down the sweep route to avoid those.

I had my first sweep at 38+1 I was only 1 cm and cervix was hard and very far back. I then had my second a week later at 39+1 and I was 2cm and very soft stretchy cervix. I went into natural labour at 39+4 and had a baby girl a few hours later. After a very traumatic first birth this one was amazing and I totally understand why people have loads of babies. Can’t wait for number 3 now 😊

I think it’s worth it for your own mind especially if you, want to avoid induction. It will let you know how dilated you are and may help you secrete the prostaglandin to help labour move along or your cervix to prepare. Plus it will give you time to come up with a plan just in case x

I’m having my ā€œ2ndā€ sweep today, my 1st was 38+4, she couldn’t get through my cervix as it wasn’t open but I saw this as a positive outcome from doing it as it gave me information that my body wasn’t ready yet rather than me obsessing over every twinge! I’ve got a total of 3 sweeps booked in before my induction and I feel this is a really good effort but if we get to induction I’ll prep myself mentally for that, just take each day as it comes 🄰 I’m trying not to obsess over the ā€œwhat ifsā€ as that won’t help my oxytocin!

You have time :) my first came at 40+2 with no signs/pre labour or anything. Went into labour without waters breaking or mucus plug loss beforehand. On the due date we went on a 2h hike, my belly never ā€œdroppedā€ either! I had told my midwife I wouldn’t do an induction either, and in the end I didn’t need to.

Im 38+6. I will have my first sweep on Friday. I had a sweep with my toddler and was induced two days later. I declined any other type of induction this time (except sweep) last time I wasn't aware that after sweep i needed to stay active and mobile (i rested entire day doing nothing šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø) this time i planned to have sex straight after and walk as much as I can. Go for sweep šŸ¤žšŸ»

I didn't have anything with my first and she was born at 40+4 and my second I had 3 sweeps which didn't work and he came on his own at 41+2. I won't have any this time and will just wait until baby is ready xx

Not sure why you’re worrying at this stage? 38+4 isn’t even full term tbh.
I’d just wait it out. Try lots of things to induce natural labour. If there’s no medical reason to have an induction I wouldn’t even consider it yet. I went into spontaneous labour at 41 weeks with both of my sons but I also accepted a sweep at 40 weeks and a sweep at 40+5 weeks. I don’t consider a stretch and sweep as an induction like many do tbh. It’s completely natural and simple helps to bring on labour which is has a success rate of doing x

Thanks mummas, well needed read of these comments. I think I will ask them to check my cervix and perhaps a sweep x

Bleeding

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on who I should contact about this.

I had my baby back in October and had the depo injection afterwards. Since giving birth, I’ve had ongoing discharge and I’m currently waiting to see a gynaecologist about it. However, I had sex last Sunday and I’ve been bleeding ever since (over a week now). I haven’t had any pain, but it’s worrying me.

I know you’re usually under the midwife for a year after birth — should I contact them about this, or has anyone else experienced something similar and can suggest who I should speak to?

I’m just not sure what to do next 😭

Labor question!

What do contractions feel like? I have a pretty high pain tolerance and am scared I won’t know right away

Visitors in the Hospital

What is your plan regarding visitors in the hospital?

My preference (and my husband's) is not to have visitors and to just have that time to bond with our baby. This has become a massive point of contention with both of our parents. I think it's a pretty reasonable boundary, but I wanted to set expectations early.

I'm curious what everyone else is doing to set boundaries ahead of time.

This is my second baby and I thought the 24/25 week appointment was for if it was your first baby? Anyone else having this appointment?
