Where to deliver baby
Hey 👋 I'm 31 weeks pregnant and still haven't decided where to give birth, so hoping someone might be happy to share their experience of delivery. Ideal case scenario, I'd like a water birth, and have as natural delivery as possible, so choosing a midwife led delivery centre makes sense, but I am worried in case I can't handle the pain (need an epidural) or if there're any complications I'll then having to be transferred to a Obstetrics unit (closest one is another 30 mins in an ambulance). I am low dependency, but this is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what to expect. Should I just err on the side of caution and opt for Hospital delivery instead (but there's no water birth option there at all)?

I had my first in a midwife led unit 30 mins from hospital and had exactly the same worries as you. It needed up being great and I was so happy I chose that route. I actually asked the midwife to let me know when the last possible time was that I could get transferred to a hospital for an epidural 🤣. When she told me I felt fine (then through transition phase I thought I made a terrible mistake 🤣 but then as soon as I was pushing it was fine.
I had my second in hospital (medically induced at 36 weeks) and I have to say that was also very chilled and a positive experience. Much more than I was expecting! You don’t really need to decide until you are in labour and if you stay at home and get the feel for it you will be able to have a good idea of where you want to be
