I have an appointment today when we will set the date for potential section. I know the date i want, but what about time? What's your experience is it better to have it in the morning or late afternoon? I also have a two year old which we have arranged childcare for. I want to stay for two nights. I know I need to be at least 8 hours with no food, so if I have breakfast at 6am ill be good for 2/3pm.

When I went in for mine I wasn’t allowed to eat from midnight the night before, I also didn’t get given a time because really if an emergency happens that will be priority so I don’t think they give times for that reason (could be different in different trusts) - good luck, just to say I had an amazing experience with my elective C section! X

I was asked to come in for the afternoon which meant arriving for 11:30 but on the day they called and asked me to come sooner which meant I was there from 930. I was still the last one on the list for the day so went into theatre 3:30 x

I got there at 7:30 am and was second on the list. Baby was born at 11:58. I couldn’t eat from midnight the night before & had lucozade with my morning omeprazole (I wasn’t GDM) and then just “sipped” water til I went to theatre! I presume even if you have it in the afternoon you’ll still not be able to eat.
An elective is much calmer than an emergency.. albeit still very nerve wracking though! Good luck xx

My first was a morning appointment and had to be there for 7, had my section at 11:30, my second was afternoon and I had to be there for 11, section at 1:30, and I could eat and drink until 6am.
I think I preferred the afternoon one because it meant I could drop my kids off at my parents that day, instead of overnight and the whole thing felt less rushed. Good luck!

I’d 💯 go for the morning slot. I got the morning for my elective and we have a 3y/o at home, we were 3 people scheduled for the morning and at least 1 of the other couples were still waiting at 3pm my husband told me. Got discharged following day at 4pm so very quick stay.
