My nearly 3 year old (he’s 3 next month) doesn’t fully know his colours or abc or counting yet.
He can count to 3 and when we’re doing jigsaws or matching the colour games he gets them right but when I ask him what colour something is he just says a random colour sometimes. With the alphabet when we play the song or we’re singing he will just say random letters sometimes. Is this even normal?

How do you react when he says something random? If you laugh or smile he may be doing it because he thinks it's funny. Otherwise, it could be a learning disability.

My little girl knows her colours and numbers to 10 but can’t do any of her alphabet
Its normal for them to learn at different speeds

Its normal. Ive had 3 year olds who can write their name, and ive had others that havent grasped letters yet. Both types are very normal! If your pediatrician says hes ok, i wouldnt sweat it

My almost three year old is like this too, he also has a speech delay. It’s normal, they all learn at different paces and I can tell with my little boy he knows the words and what they mean, he’s just being selective on when he uses his voice. Everyone I’ve spoken to says he’s an observer/doer first then a talker, I’m not worried because they will start to cover it more next year and he is still able to communicate what’s necessary. It’s so easy as a mum to over analyse especially when it feels like it’s solely your responsibility to make sure your children thrive but be kind to yourself, it sounds like you’ve already asked the relevant people and if there are concerns they will be communicated eventually 😊

That is absolutely normal in my experience. My son was the same at this age. He’s now 4 (turning 5 at the end of july) and is reading, counting, doing some easy maths and writing. At 3 years old he was mixing up all colours, wouldn’t count and couldn’t care less about ABC’s
