Placenta Insufficiency
Hello all,
I’m currently 25+5 days pregnant. The last few weeks has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me and my partner. I was told I had low Papp a during my 12 weeks scan. Then low iron at week 17 and gestational diabetes at week 24. My baby was measuring small at week 20, but they couldn’t find out why he was measuring small till I went for a growth scan a few days ago at week 25.
That was when they discovered the abnormality in my placenta. My baby is fine but the blood flow from the placenta to him has some gaps in it.
I got referred to the Doppler team, and they said there’s a high possibility I won’t be able to carry my baby full term. The highest I can go with my placenta is week 34, but if things get worse then they’ll induce.
I also met up with the fetal monitoring team and they said something similar with a bit of good news. They said everything is pointing to the placenta and at the moment, my baby is fine and isn’t straining to use his organs, but I will need to do scans (Doppler and fetal) every other day, CTGs and blood tests. The fetal team said the placenta won’t fail in a few days and from what they can see, it will work at this pace for the next 3 weeks which will get me to week 28. They also mentioned that there’s like a 70% chance the placenta can hold on till week 32.
Please, I need positive stories about people that had similar experiences or had a premature baby.
